Additional Information

This short piece is inspired by the Baroque Passacaglia, a dance in slowish duple time based on a recurring series of harmonies. My version of this dance-form is in the Dorian mode on D, but ending on A. It is minimal and spare in character, reflecting my preoccupation at the time of composition [2019] with limiting my musical material to the bare essentials.

Passacaglia is scored for flute, viola & harp (the same ensemble as for the Debussy Sonata)

It was first performed by the Aurora Trio on May 5th, 2022 at Lauderdale House

Parts are available as PDF files from the composer on request.
