In 1974, I wrote a short piece for flute and string orchestra in memory of my friend, Laurie Kennedy, a principal flautist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, who tragically died in a road accident in August 1970. In 12975, I decided to revise the piece and extend it, creating a single-movement chamber concerto in which there are several distinct sections.
In revising some of my earlier music in 2019, I nominated the piece, Concerto da Camera No 2, the work taking its place with my other two chamber concerti for oboe and mandolin and guitar duo respectively (all having string orchestra accompaniment).
There are six distinct sections marked Lento, Allegro, Subito lento, Cadenza (senza misura), Allegro and Lento.
