This work, based on a passage from The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien, was written in 2013 for Rachel Smith (principal flute, Band of the Coldstream Guards), who recorded it that year with the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra conducted by Mark Heron, giving the world premiere public performance in 2014 at Cadogan Hall, London, with the Band of the Coldstream Guards conducted by Lt Col Dr Graham O Jones MBE.
