Trace II is a monolithic, sonic sculpture carved across the entire range of the cello. The piece traces a line from the very highest points of the instrument’s range right down to the lowest and back up again, etching out a shimmering, multilayered soundworld in its wake.
Starting out as fleeting and iridescent gestures, the piece gradually forms into a raw and raging wall of noise. Imagine a block of stone being slowly transformed into a gargantuan sculpture, the form only revealing itself as the process nears its completion.
