"The music of stones" (2024) was inspired by British land artist Richard Long’s 2004 work of the same name. This was an indoor installation comprising a semicircle of jagged blue rocks on the floor overlooked by a vertical rectangular monolithic wooden construction; above this was a series of simple stained glass windows. The whole spoke to me of a journey from chaos to serenity, the jaggedness of human existence overlooked by the implacability of fate while the hope of peace floats above, only attainable once we lift our gaze from our own concerns. The music follows this journey.
"The music of stones" was commissioned by the Boyne Music Festival and the performers on this recording are Vourneen Ryan (fl), Deirdre Brenner (pno), Aisling Manning (vn), Robin Panter (va) and Julie-Anne Manning (vc).
