Additional Information
Metamorphosis for Yamaha wind controller and electronics was written for Richard Ingham in 1993. The title is taken from Escher's woodcut Metamorphosis II 1939-40 in which, in the course of 29 blocks, the artist performs a set of virtuoso transformations of images. The piece does not attempt to transcribe exactly Escher's visual organisation to musical form, but uses it as a metaphor for a musical process. It explores all the registers of the instrument and presents a wide range of sonorities from the Emu Proteus II synthesizer module, transformed by signal processing devices. The performance score was developed by Richard Ingham and the composer.
