Additional Information
I wrote the words here in 2014, for a local poetry competition. Four years later, I was performing in a concert with a First World War theme, so I decided to set my own words. I had also been involved in some local history research, and was fascinated by the story of Sydney Lacey, who left Buckinghamshire for Australia shortly before the War only to come back to Europe and die on the Western Front. Amazingly, he was fighting just down the line from the Bucks Battalion, and one wonders if he knew any of the other Buckinghamshire men who died at Fromelles.
