This carol was written in response to the BBC Radio 3 Carol Competition in 2021. I initially misread the brief and wrote a melody for the whole text, rather than a single verse. I submitted a single verse melody version (in 4/4) which did not reach the selection stage, but developed my original 5/8 melody into a choir and organ setting. It was performed at Christmas 2022 at St Mary Islington, London.
