‘Ich mußte Wandern durch die Welt’,
I had to wander through the world. – ( Written about 1976)
‘Ich mußte Wandern durch die Welt,
konnte nie bleiben wo mirs gefällt,
Ich wurde hin und her getrieben,
So lernte ich Wind und Wetter lieben.’
Translation
‘I had to wander through the world,
Could never stay where I liked,
I was thrown to and fro,
And so learned to love wind and weather.’
‘Die Einsamkeit.’
‘Loneliness.’ (Written in England in internment camp, Isle of Man 1940.)
‘So weit wie das Meer,
so weit So gross ist meine Einsamkeit ,
So teif wie das Meer unendlich
Wie der Fisch im Wasser unverständlich,
Dünkler Felsstein ,
Du am Meeresstrand,
Irgend wie bist Du mir verwand.’
Translation
‘Loneliness’. ‘
So wide as the sea,
so far, So great is my loneliness,
So deep like the sea,immense endless
Like the fish in the water indistinguishable,
Dark rock stone on the sea beach
Some how you are related to me.’
