Biography
Xia Leon Sloane (born June 2000) is a UK-based composer. In 2017, they were the youngest recipient of an RPS-Classic FM 25th Birthday commission, resulting in their piece 'Elegy For Aylan' being performed by members of Ensemble 10:10 in Liverpool's St George's Hall. Following their success with the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Compeitition, 'Elegy For Aylan' was given a second performance, this time from members of the Auorora Orchestra in the BBC Radio Theatre as part of the BBC Proms Series in 2018. Their vocal octet 'Earthward', their prize commission for the Inspire competition, was premièred by Voces8 at Cadogan Hall as part of the BBC Proms in 2019. Xia has also been fortunate enough to work with acclaimed soloists, notably Oliver Coates, who commissioned them to compose a new work for solo cello which he performed at Café Otto. 'brink', a new piece for the BBC Concert Orchestra, will receive its world première at Queen Elizabeth Hall in March 2020.
