Biography
Jamie Man (London, 1987) is a british-born Chinese composer and conductor. She has made work through VOX at the Royal Opera House (London), Jerwood Opera Writing Programme (Aldeburgh), Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble (Amsterdam), Eric Ericson Kammarkör (Stockholm), Xenon Ensemble (Berlin), LOD Muziektheater (Ghent) and the Gulbenkian Music Foundation (Lisbon) who commissioned PLAY: Episodes in Subspace (2014-6), the first of her operas created specifically for concert hall staging. Jamie was a Sound and Music embedded composer with The Mahogany Opera Group (2013-15).
After receiving the Britten-Pears Conductors Bursary in 2010, Jamie worked as assistant conductor to Oliver Knussen and later at De Nationale Opera (Amsterdam) for Claude Vivier's Kopernikus. Since then, Jamie's conducting work has included re-invitations to the Aldeburgh Music festival (Snape) in concerts with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, the UK premiere of Philip Glass' Les Enfants Terribles (London), recordings for the independent record label Another Timbre as well as La Monnaie de Munt (Brussels) in collaboration with the Holland Festival (Amsterdam).
