Biography
Brian Ferneyhough is a composer and central figure of the New Complexity movement from Coventry, who has resided in California since 1987. He studied at the Birmingham School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied composition with Sir Lennox Berkeley. In addition, he holds an honorary DMus from Goldsmiths University of London (2012) and an honorary degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2018), for his contributions to contemporary classical music. Despite poor reception and controversy during his early career, he received international recognition in the 1970s and is considered one of today’s foremost living composers and an influential musical thinker in contemporary music. Brian has also written articles on contemporary music and has previously served as a member of the editorial board of the journal Perspectives of New Music.
