Additional Information

"Pandemonium: Music for Parakeets", is a work in three movements. The parakeet phrases were initially transcribed by Jessica from field recordings, tested on the parakeets and then made into a composition.

The first two movements were performed to the parakeets themselves at the bandstand in Clapham Common; for flute, soprano, violin, and synths. All three movements are based on different calls.

The third movement is for violin, vocals and electronics, based entirely on a full graphic score. Inspired in part by Rainer Wehinger’s notation style, this score is both visual and sonic - incorporating abstracted references to parakeet behaviours, feather forms, and environmental textures.

The vinyl record of the whole work is currently available (June to mid September) to listen to at The Desgin Museum, London. The first two movements were recorded live and if you listen closely, you can hear the parakeets in the background. The second movement was filmed so is also available to watch. The graphic score (which corresponds with the third movement) is also available to see.
