Biography
The music of Bob Dickinson is underpinned by nature and the sacred, exploring the interface between simple and complex elements while resting in the liminal zone between sound and silence.
Creative foundations, defined by accessibility, non-hierarchical structures, and the eschewing of stylistic labels, stem from early mentoring with composer Dieter Salbert in Bayreuth.
Beyond composition, cosmology and the exploration of natural landscapes inform a multi-disciplinary creative approach.
Compositions have received performances from a diverse range of artists and ensembles, including CoMA, Komposit, Siobhan Mooney (UK), Duo Avance (Switzerland), Viktor van Niekerk (South Africa), Negative Zed (Canada).
As a writer, work includes, Music and the Earth Spirit, a cross-cultural study of the use of music and sound to commune with nature. Literary contributions also feature interviews with composers Harold Budd, Roger Eno and Daniel Lentz for The Mouth Magazine.
