Biography
Robin Holloway is an English composer, academic and writer from Leamington Spa. An alumnus of St Paul’s Cathedral Choir and King’s College Cambridge, Robin has taught at the University of Cambridge since 1974 and is currently a fellow of Gonville and Caius College. Notable pupils include Thomas Adès, Robert Saxton and Judith Weir. His doctoral thesis on Debussy and Wagner examined the close relationship between music and language, with his composition style being described as ‘neo-Romantic’. This can be seen most blatantly in works such as Scenes from Schumann (1970) and Fantasy Pieces on the Heine Liederkreis of Schumann (1971), which incorporates a full performance of Schumann’s Op. 24 Liederkreis into the work. Robin has also written a regular column for The Spectator magazine.
