Midori Komachi

Biography

Midori Komachi is a violinist and composer with a diverse portfolio in bridging the UK and Japan through music. As a composer, Komachi specializes in surround sound, expressing the distinct timbres of Western and Japanese traditions. Her works have been showcased in exhibitions and collaborations with architect Kengo Kuma, Musicity, LUSH, The Courtauld Gallery and Milan Design Week. In 2021, she was selected a Musician in Residence at the British Council & PRS Foundation.

As a violinist, Komachi made her solo debut at age 12 with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra conducted by Howard Griffiths, and has since performed extensively across Europe and Japan in prestigious venues, including Tonhalle Zurich, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and Wigmore Hall. 

A passionate advocate for both British and Japanese music, she has appeared on various media such as BBC Radio 3, NHK, and TV Tokyo, and served as a presenter for British Airways' in-flight entertainment from 2018 to 2020. In addition to her musical projects, she is a bilingual writer and translator, having published two books in Japan. 

Komachi’s works have been released via Nonclassical, MusiKaleido and MSCTY.
