
Biography
Jean Hasse composes for films, special events, and her concert music has been heard at major venues world-wide. As a music publisher and copyist she’s worked for Gunther Schuller, Ornette Coleman and John Williams, amongst others. In the 1990s Jean moved from the U.S. to the U.K. She taught at the University of Bristol Department of Music for nine years, where she received MA and MMus degrees.
Since 2007 Jean has composed scores for twenty silent films, including the feature-length works Faust (1926), The Rat (1925) and Richard Wagner (1913); she also accompanies silent films on piano. Jean is also a music editor, orchestrator, and prepares scores and parts for numerous composers, recently Seckou Keita, Samy Bishai, Al Lethbridge, and artist Terry Flaxton. Documentary composing work includes The Rise of the Warrior Apes (Discovery Channel) and cues for Chimp Empire (Netflix), assisting William Goodchild.
